Prep background benefits Irish line

When Sam Young arrived at Notre Dame and shot his way up the depth chart, the high school All-American guaranteed himself an earful from Charlie Weis. The Notre Dame head coach doesn't waste time yelling at reserves, but he'll light into a starter that's screwing up in practice.

Young had endured a verbal barrage from a head coach before. In fact, that's part of the reason why he's busted through the freshman wall and continues to make Notre Dame history. He was the first rookie offensive lineman to start a season opener in the program's history.
