Dantonio picks up first commit at State

SpartanMag.com Michigan State picked up its first commitment of the Mark Dantonio era Wednesday morning when Gahana (Ohio) Lincoln star John Hughes told Spartan assistant Mike Tressel that he wanted to play for the green and white.
Hughes was a recruit prized by the former Spartan coaching staff. The versatile two-way star put on a top-shelf performance during Michigan State's summer football camp. Hughes was the top tight end at the Spartans' June camp and he also excelled during d-line drills.
Hughes committed to Michigan State the same week was fired by the Spartans according to Gahanna Lincoln football coach Mike Lanza. There was some uncertainty whether Hughes commitment would be honored with Michigan State's coaching staff in a state of flux.
