Spartans inspired by Magic's surprise visit
EAST LANSING - The presence of Earvin "Magic" Johnson at basketball practice created a buzz amongst the members of the Michigan State basketball team on Monday.
"That is why this program is great," said senior point guard Drew Neitzel. "We have had great players here before us, and they care. Thirty years after they are done playing, coming back here and doing whatever they can do to help. It is a true family, and it makes you realize that you are part of something special here at Michigan State."
But after practice was over, the words Johnson spoke to the Spartans in their locker room created resolve and determination.
The message was a simple one.
"He just talked about three things, turnovers, defense, and rebounding," recalled Neitzel. "The things we need to do better to get back on the right track. He knows, he watches all of our games and he knows what it takes. He knows what we are doing right and what we are doing wrong."
