What Brown can do for you
UPS uses the slogan 'What can Brown do for you?'
In Centre, Ala., Desmond Brown's case the answer is pretty much everything.
The 6-foot-0, 190-pound athlete could possibly be one of the most versatile football players in the Southeast. Brown already has three scholarship offers and played a variety of positions last season including running back, wide receiver, tight end, defensive end, linebacker, cornerback and safety.
Brown has offers on the table from Arkansas, South Carolina and Appalachian State but is not sure which position he will end up at in college.
"Everybody is looking at me as an athlete," Brown said. "Before I moved down here to Alabama I was a running back and free safety. Now that I am here I've been everywhere from linebacker to defensive end to safety and a little bit of receiver and tight end too. I'm just an athlete so wherever a team thinks that they can use me. I know that different teams could use me at different positions."
Brown played his freshman, sophomore and began his junior season at Model High School in Rome, Ga., but because of a personal situation in his home life he had to abruptly leave and transfer to Cherokee County High in Alabama midseason.
The Warriors were undefeated at 6-0 when Brown enrolled in classes there and had to sit out several weeks due to transfer rules. But once Brown began playing he was used in a number of different positions and helped Cherokee County remain undefeated at 14-0 until losing 41-7 in the Class 4A State Championship game.
Brown attended junior day at Alabama and the Crimson Tide could be the next program to offer. He is also hearing from UAB, Auburn and Georgia.
Another school that could soon be joining the mix for Brown's signature on signing day is Mississippi State who is in need of secondary help in the 2010 class.
"They haven't been in contact with me but I would love to hear from Mississippi State," Brown said. "If I ever heard from Mississippi State they would be amongst the top because it's the SEC. I'd never count any team out but I love the SEC. If Mississippi State were to contact me I would love it. I'm wearing their colors right now and I believe I look pretty good in it."
Brown listed his top five schools as Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, USC and Florida although the Razorbacks are the only program to offer at the moment.
