Coach: Jaylen Samuels can do it all

On Saturday night against Wake Forest (N.C.) High at Carter-Finley Stadium in Raleigh, Charlotte's Mallard Creek High will be looking to cap off an incredible season.

The Mavericks are 15-0 this year, and they have supplanted nearby Butler High as the premier powerhouse in the Charlotte-region. A win over Wake Forest will give Mallard Creek it's first 4-AA state title.

A huge reason for their success: do-it-all athlete Jaylen Samuels on offense. Entering the state title game, the 6-foot, 225-pound Samuels has rushed 102 times for 1,305 yards and 36 touchdowns and caught 44 passes for 818 yards and 14 more scores.

Samuels would need a humongous receiving effort to be the first player that Mallard Creek head coach Michael Palmieri has coached to both rush and receive for over 1,000 yards in a season, but regardless, Palmieri said that Samuels is "a jack of all trades."
