OL Receives Offer From Hokies, Scheduled To Visit
Jeff Grimes was crystal clear when outlining his goals for the future of the recently criticized unit.New Virginia Tech offensive line coach
"What I'm worried about is developing the toughest line in the ACC," Grimes said back in January. "But the next part is you've got to have at least some guys in that room that have that mentality and want to take ownership of that [toughness]."
Grimes has already made an effort for that "next part" in terms of recruiting- Virginia Tech has offered 2014 offensive lineman Eric Gallo from Council Rock South in Eastern Pennsylvania. The 6'3", 280-pound guard/center now has four offers, and the Hokies are the most prominent player involved.
"I'm up to four offers," Gallo told Rivals.com. "I've had UMass since January, Virginia Tech offered me two weeks ago, Buffalo offered me last week, and Temple offered this week. A lot of the interest came from coaches seeing my film. It's very exciting. It's nice to have some scholarships and some options."
It's presumably the first recruit Grimes has personal interest in recruiting at Virginia Tech, considering Eastern Pennsylvania one of the specific locations he's assigned to within the coaching staff. It's also easy to see why Grimes would have serious interest in Gallo. In his highlight tape, Gallo shows tremendous strength and tenacity with countless pancakes and seems to be a solid competitor.
While he's already taken visits to Rutgers, Temple, Pitt, and Boston College, Gallo is scheduled to visit Virginia Tech this weekend.
"On Friday I'm going to Virginia Tech to visit," Gallo said. "I haven't been there before and I'm excited to see the program, see the school, and get a feel for what the university is like. I'm excited to see it."
Gallo mentioned that Hokie coaches have came to visit him twice, and Rutgers could be close to offering next. While the offensive lineman, who is going to play exclusively at center in his senior season, is enjoying the sudden spark in his services, he doesn't want to drag the recruiting process out.
"As of right now I'm interested in all the schools that have offered me and I'm trying to get out to visit some of them; maybe then I'll be able to find some favorites", Gallo added. "I'm going to try to get out to as many schools that have offered me as I can, see what they're like, and get a feel for the coaching staffs and the universities as much as I can. I would like to make a decision before my senior season so I can focus on my senior year."
Will Virginia Tech be one of the favorites in his decision? We'll know more after his visit to Blacksburg this weekend.
