Friday Night Lights: Aug 30

Week one has started for some of Tar Heel recruits and some will be beginning their season this coming Friday. Either way, football has begun for all high schools around the country and has a bunch of top match ups against other top schools around the area and country.

The 2014 North Carolina recruits went 5-7 during week one, with several players and teams playing out of conference games, warming themselves up and learning about their teams before starting conference play in a couple of weeks.

The best game of week one had to go to Olympic and Robert Dinkins, as Olympic went back and forth against Myers Park late Friday night, with Olympic pulling out the win late, 37-34.

Now, in the second week of high school football, schools in Virginia and Georgia will be starting their season, while schools in North Carolina schools started last week.

Elijah Hood - Charlotte Catholic (1-0)
Aug 30: @ Northwestern, SC
- With his recent commitment to UNC this past week, it was a very good week for Hood, as he ran for 325 yards on 37 carries and 5 touchdowns, leading his team over Gonzaga (Md) 35 - 28.

Cameron Albright - North Cobb (0-0)
Aug 30: vs. Starr's Mill (Fayetteville, GA)
- North Cobb will be beginning their season this week

Josh Allen - University Christian School (0-1)
Aug 30: @ Carrollwood Day (Tampa, Fl)
- Lost last week to Highlands (Ky) 47-17.

Allen Artis - Wheeler (1-0)
Aug 30: OFF
- Wheeler is coming off a 44-14 win over Sprayberry

Tajze Battle - Dunbar (1-0)
Aug 30: vs Naples (Fl)
- Last week, Wheeler took down Lehigh 46-0, in a dominating fashion

Cayson Collins - Berry Academy (0-1)
Aug 30: vs Mallard Creek (Charlotte, NC)
- After an exciting first quarter, Berry Academy couldn't control Vance's offense, losing 36-14.

Ayden Bonilla - Etowah (0-0)
Aug 30: @ Lambert (Suwanee, GA)
- Starting the season this week

Robert Dinkins - Olympic (1-0)
Aug 30: Off
- Last week, Olympic faced off against Myers Park in a back and forth game between the two teams. Olympic eventually pulled ahead and won 37-34

Malik Carney - T.C. Williams (0-0)
Aug 30: @Oaktown (Vienna, VA)

Caleb Henderson - Lake Braddock (0-0)
Aug 30: @ Robinson (Fairfax, VA)

Caleb Samuel - First Presbyterian Day (0-0)
Aug 30: George Walton Academy (Monroe, GA)

Jeremiah Clarke - T.C Williams (0-0)
Aug 30: @ Oaktown (Vienna, VA)

Tyler Powell - Cosby (0-1)
Aug 29: @ Dale (Chester, VA)
- Cosby suffered an season opening loss to Prince George in a defensive minded game, 14-7

Marvin Stewart - Yorktown (0-0)
Aug 29: vs. Coolidge (Washington, DC)

Tyrell Tomlin - Marietta (1-0)
Aug 30: vs Pope (Marietta, GA)
- Marietta took down Newnan in the opener, as Tomlin scored two touchdowns on offense

Austin Proehl - Providence (0-1)
Aug 30: vs East Mecklenburg (Charlotte, NC)
- Providence suffered a tough loss over the weekend to Hough, a very good football team, 34-21, after Hough jumped out to an early lead

Freeman Jones - Bunn (0-1)
Aug 29: vs North Johnston (Kenly, NC)
- Bunn raced out to an early lead, but couldn't hold on, as Bunn fell 36-17 Friday night.

Brandon Fritts - Mentor (0-0)
Aug 30: vs. McDowell (Erie, PA)
- Mentor will be starting there season

Josh Cabrera - Northside (0-1)
Aug 30: White Oak (Jacksonville, NC)
- West Carteret stifled Northside this past weekend, as Northside went down 21-3. Cabrera had one catch for 20 yards

Avery Edwards - Ravenscroft (1-0)
Aug 30: @ Providence Day (Charlotte, NC)
- Ravenscroft was able to defeat Northern Vance last Friday 34-14 to open the season.

Bentley Spain - Providence (0-1)
Aug 30: vs East Mecklenburg (Charlotte, NC)
- Providence suffered a tough loss over the weekend to Hough, a very good football team, 34-21, after Hough jumped out to an early lead



Throughout the season, Tar Heel Illustrated will give the fans information about where the future Tar Heels might be playing in the upcoming weeks and update the fans about how each team is doing week in and week out.

All over the country, one will be able to catch a glimpse of some future Tar Heels, as they continue to grow and compete against teams around their area.
