TAMPA, Fla. -- Three weeks after its Sunshine State star went No. 4 in the NFL Draft, Clemson's coaching staff reached back into Florida for a replacement who is in the conversation for the state's top 2015 receiver.
Tampa Bay Tech (Fla.) four-star Deon Cain announced his commitment to Clemson on Friday afternoon during a ceremony in the school's media center.
The Tigers were among the handful of programs under consideration until he visited the campus with his mother and coach last month.
"I saw everything I needed to see," he said. "It was a great school."
Cain (6-1, 190) jumped to No. 151 nationally in the latest Rivals.com rankings this month.
He plays quarterback for his high school and threw for 1,945 yards and 13 touchdowns last season while running for 731 yards and four scores. But Cain projects as a receiver and starred at the position during the Rivals Camp Series in Orlando two months ago.
Cain picked Clemson over a group of finalists including Florida, Florida State, Georgia, Tennessee, Alabama and Miami.
He becomes the Tigers' 16th commitment for the 2015 cycle and seventh class member in the Rivals250.
Check back with Tigerillustrated.com later today and throughout the weekend for more on Cain's pledge.
