ORANGEBURG, S.C. - Albert Huggins cancelled his final in-home visit Thursday because of a family matter.
One can reasonably assume the nation's No. 76 prospect had already settled on joining the program that seemed like family.
The Orangeburg-Wilkinson standout defensive lineman announced his commitment to Clemson on Friday morning during a ceremony in the school auditorium.
Huggins (6-3, 282) had hats on the table for his two finalists - Clemson and Georgia - before picking the Tigers, considered the frontrunners for the majority of his lengthy recruitment.
Clemson had pursued Huggins for nearly 2 ½ years, and area recruiter Marion Hobby's efforts and patience paid off.
The Tigers scored their highest-ranked defensive line prospect the last six years, which was also the last time they scored the state's highest-ranked recruit.
Huggins took his official visit to Clemson for its 35-17 victory against South Carolina, and the Tigers cemented their status with coach Dabo Swinney's in-home visit last week.
He is set to play in the Shrine Bowl of the Carolinas next week before heading to the Jan. 3 U.S. Army All-American game in San Antonio.
Huggins will then enroll at Clemson in early January.
Tigerillustrated.com will have much more on Huggins' commitment throughout the afternoon and weekend.
