-- The offensive coaches were borderline ecstatic after yesterday's practice.

It's often said that not a lot of important stuff happens during spring practice, but the demeanor of the coaches suggested otherwise after they watched the offense have its way with the defense.

For much of the past few weeks, it felt like the staff was finding it hard to judge the regular struggles they were witnessing from the new cast of playmakers on this offense. When you're facing a defense that's this nasty overall and this disruptive up front, you tend to grade on a curve when you're just a couple months removed from a national title that was won largely on the strength of guys who are no longer here.

Much different story in yesterday's scrimmage situation, though. With installation over and the past two weeks devoted to seeing how the offense executes under the pressure of game-like settings, the coaches have been very pleased by what they've seen the last two times out.
