HAMPTON (Va.) - The Clemson Tigers picked up their 13th verbal commit of the 2009 recruiting class on Tuesday, as moments ago Tajh Boyd, a US Army All-American, announced his intentions to sign with the Orange & White on February 4 at a news conference, choosing the Tigers over Ohio State and Oregon.
Boyd, the No. 4 pro-style QB recruit in the nation, met with Clemson assistant coaches Billy Napier and Danny Pearman Monday night, before shutting off contact with other coaches and media to prepare for today's announcement.
The 6-foot-1, 208-pounder becomes the highest rated quarterback recruit to commit to Clemson in over a decade. The last QB to sign with the Tigers to own a 6.0 marker was T.T. Tolliver in 1996, under then head coach Tommy West, though Tolliver was ultimately billed by the National Recruiting Advisor as an athlete.
Rivals.com will have much more from the Boyd announcement later this afternoon and on into this evening.
