The Clemson coaching staff has secured its 21st verbal commitment of the 2004-05 recruiting campaign. Pageland-Central athlete - defensive back Sadat Chambers has made a verbal commitment to wide receivers coach Dabo Swinney and the Tigers, according to a source familiar with his recruiting.
Chambers, who had a good workout at last May’s Atlanta, Ga. - Nike Camp, is rated by Tigerillustrated.com as the state’s No. 15 prospect. He hails from one of the state’s most respected 2-A programs in Pageland-Central.
Chambers, who projects to qualify academically, will play in the Tigers' defensive backfield. The 5-foot-10 1/2, 178-pounder projects as a rover, and could possibly get playing time as a corner.
The speedy athlete has a strong break on the ball, and possesses the coverage skills necessary to to excel at the collegiate level.
Chambers, who is scheduled to visit Clemson on January 14th, picked Clemson over an offer from South Carolina.
"I've been looking hard at Clemson for a long time. I went there last year for their game against Florida State, and they pulled it out. They took it to Florida State. Ever since then I've sort of had a soft spot for them. They have been winning, and their program is up and coming," said Chambers on Sunday. "Clemson has a great college football atmosphere. It's a place where people are serious about football. They have a winning tradition, and coach (Tommy) Bowden has a new contract, so he's going to be with them for a long time. It is the best decision for me. It's where I wanted to go, and I've talked it over with my mother, and we decided to go ahead and commit. Coach Swinney had been telling me that he was flat out of scholarships, so I was going to be the last one they were waiting on for my position."
The all-state selection has over a 3.2 GPA, and projects to qualify academically.
