Clemson lands another elite WR, Dacari Collins is a Tiger
Dacari Collins has committed to the Clemson Tigers.
The 6-foot-5, 201 pound junior wide receiver at Powder Springs (Ga.) McEachern committed to Clemson over the likes of Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Georgia and LSU.
Collins went up to Clemson in June, worked out for the coaches and earned the offer. Well before the offer, he knew he could end up a Tiger.
"I have been thinking about this for a while. I know I am ready," said Collins. "I knew Clemson was the school for me, so I wanted to get this done, focus only on this season and try to win state with my team.
"Over the years, I have learned a lot about Clemson and I really like how the program is run, so I have known that is where I wanted to go for a while," said Collins. "I feel like I fit in there. The coaches, the people, the school — it is all just a perfect fit for me.
"I am happy to be committed to Clemson now."
The four-star had plenty of options, and numerous SEC schools were in pursuit, so why the early commitment to Clemson?
Something sets Dabo Swinney's program apart.
"Clemson does things different. They do not offer a lot of guys, and the guys they offer are good kids. The Clemson coaches really evaluate kids hard and they look for good kids, not just good players. They want guys who are going to work hard, go about their business the right way and not screw up.
"The people there want to develop their kids into young men, not just great football players. They really care about their players. They want to help their players to become great men, great father's, great husband's and all that.
"That really makes Clemson different. That is what I want to be a part of that."
The environment is "amazing" too and Collins said the vibes are "very good" around Clemson. He knows all about that wide receiver production too.
DeAndre Hopkins. Sammy Watkins. Mike Williams. The list goes on.
Collins trusts the staff will do all they can to put his name in that group.
"The Clemson coaches know what they are doing," said Collins. "They know how to develop receiver, they are dedicated to their guys and they will give their all to me.
"I know if I do my part, then I will have a chance there. They have produced a lot of top receivers."
The offers started rolling in early for Collins. He was a known name in Georgia as a freshman, and now, early in his junior year, he is committed to the national champions.
The dream has become reality.
"This is a very proud moment for me. I was recently just a little kid playing football, but after working hard, and doing the right things, I can say I am committed to Clemson. I am very blessed. I never thought I could make it to this point.
"Not only have I made it, but I am committed to the best school in the country. It is really a great feeling."
