Tigerillustrated.com has learned that Opelika, Ala. defensive lineman Jacquez Mckissic (6-7, 270, 4.9) has failed to meet the minimum entrance requirements to enroll at Clemson University this August. McKissic, a standout in this summer's Alabama - Mississippi All-Star Game, chose Clemson in March over scholarship offers from Auburn, Illinois, Mississippi State, N.C. State, Louisville, Memphis and UAB.
The talented lineman came up four-hundredths of a point shy on his core GPA in order to match the composite (ACT) test score he received.
Currently McKissic is working out arrangements for the fall, what will include one of two scenarios - remaining in Opelika where he could continue to retake the ACT, or enrolling in a prep school.
Also, defensive lineman and 2004 signee Elsmore Gabriel (6-4, 260) of Brooklyn, NY has failed to meet the minimum enrollment requirements, and will not be arriving next month when freshmen report. Gabriel, who committed to Clemson last October, came up shy on his SAT score, and is now making arrangements to attend a prep school this fall where he will continue retaking the SAT. Fork Union Military in Fork Union, Va. is the likely destination according to sources familiar with his recruiting who spoke with Tigerillustrated.com Wednesday afternooon.
Speaking of Wednesday afternoon, there was more movement on the recruiting front for the Tigers, though with the class of 2005.
Earlier in the day Clemson had an unofficial visitor on campus in Knoxville, TN - Carter offensive tackle Garrett Reynolds (6-7, 260). Reynolds, who was accompanied by his mother, has already received an official scholarship offer from Clemson. He now has offers from Clemson, Maryland, Georgia Tech, North Carolina and Virginia Tech. Tigerillustrated.com will have more on Reynolds tomorrow or Friday.
Speaking of linemen, Tigerillustrated.com has now confirmed that Reid Hobby (6-4, 290) of Newberry (High) will be a walk-on to the Clemson football team this fall. Hobby drew division I-AA interest before deciding to walk-on at Clemson.
Also today we have confirmed that Summerville - Stratford defensive back Hadrian Lewis (6-0, 180, 4.55) has committed to Clemson running backs coach Burton Burns. Lewis was actually verbally offered by Clemson last year following his performance at camp. He becomes the eighth verbal commitment of the 2004-05 recruiting class. (Kevin McCrarey of Phil Kornblut's Palmettosports first reported Lewis' commitment to the Tigers).
