*** Elliott received a $25,000 signing bonus for winning the Broyles Award, which recognizes college football's top assistant.

*** Wesley Goodwin, who spent six years at Clemson before leaving for the Arizona Cardinals in 2015, returns as an analyst making $101,000 a year. He fills the vacancy opened when Hall was named the 10th on-field assistant.

Venables would appear to be the second highest-paid assistant in the country, behind LSU's Dave Aranda. Aranda recently received a raise to $2.5 million from $1.8 million.

Also with Venables, his contract continues to state that he will owe Clemson nothing if he takes a head-coaching job.

By our math, Clemson is paying its assistants a total of $6.585 million.

By comparison, Florida State's 10 assistants reportedly are making $4.97 million.

Alabama's assistants made $5.9 million last year. That of course does not include the 10th assistant that the NCAA allowed to go into effect in January (Hall filled that spot for Clemson).

For some context, here were the 2016 salaries of Clemson's assistants:

Venables: $1.43 million

Elliott: $643,750

Scott: $643,750

Caldwell: $465,000

Pearman: $435,000

Streeter: $375,000

Reed: $400,000

Hobby: $507,000

Brooks: $457,917

Here are the bonuses paid out to Clemson's main staff, per the terms of their contracts for 2017 on-field achievements:

Swinney: $400,000

Venables: $160,000

Conn: $60,000

Caldwell: $60,000

Elliott: $60,000

Bates: $60,000

Pearman: $60,000

Reed: $60,000

Scott: $60,000

Streeter: $60,000

Batson: $60,000
