With one Peach State product on the path to success if not stardom at the nickel position, Clemson has gone down the familiar path to secure perhaps the next in line.

Cedartown (Ga.) four-star defensive back Tae Harris announced his commitment to Clemson on Monday afternoon. Tigerillustrated.com told subscribers Sunday night an announcement was imminent after projecting Harris to Clemson.

"I like what they've got going on," Harris told Tigerillustrated.com. "Their program is really coming together again.

"I just really like them. High character -- they have great men on the staff. They have a lot going for them. Defensively they fly around to the ball. I like what they have going on schematic-wise."

Harris (6-0, 200), ranked No. 207 nationally by Rivals.com, pledged to UGA last summer before backing out in January upon the departure of the Dawgs' position coach.

Harris' decommitment prompted offers from Florida, USC, Oklahoma, Ole Miss, Georgia Tech and Kentucky.

Then he timed a 4.38 40 at a prominent camp recently as well as drew favorable reviews for his 7-on-7 performances, and that only enhanced his market. Oregon, Auburn and South Carolina all offered within the last two weeks.

But Clemson safeties coach Mickey Conn seized the opportunity once that door cracked.

Harris visited Clemson last summer before his UGA pledge, and the wheels were set in motion for the Tigers' involvement in December once Harris started looking around.

Dabo Swinney made a school stop to see Harris late in the January contact period as Clemson formalized its offer.

As we've documented, Harris was a high school competitor of Clemson safety Khalil Barnes -- who shined as a freshman out of Bogart (Ga.) North Oconee last season.

The two connected late in Barnes' high school career and have been friends since.

Clemson had already substantially advanced its cause by the time Harris traveled in for its Spring Elite Day a week ago with his mother and pastor.

He had been scheduled to take in an Ole Miss spring practice later this month and had an official visit lined up with Georgia Tech after the Clemson official visit weekend May 31-June 2.

Harris then informed the staff of his decision last week, and we issued a Tigerillustrated.com projection for Harris to Clemson once his announcement time range was set.

He becomes the Tigers' 11th commitment for the 2025 class.
