As first projected by Tigerillustrated.com on Monday, July 25th, Asheville, NC athlete Crezdon Butler has now officially announced for Clemson after verbally committing some two weeks ago.
The 6-foot, 180-pound cover-corner, who accounted for 2,200 yards and 22 touchdowns on offense last season, fills Clemson's allotment at the cornerback position this season. Already the coaching staff has a verbal commitment from four-star rated Byron Maxwell of N. Charleston - Ft. Dorchester.
Butler, moments ago at his school's weight room in front of family, friends and a small gathering of media, announced for Clemson over semi-finalist N.C. State.
"Clemson is close to home, and it has a great reputation as a program football-wise and academically," said Butler. "It's a great situation for me, they have my major (Engineering), and they are a program on the rise. I've been leaning to Clemson for a while now, and I felt I just wanted to go ahead and get this out of the way before my senior season started so that I could focus on everything I needed to."
Butler's offer sheet, impressive, included notable full rides such as Virginia, Virginia Tech, Nebraska, North Carolina, N.C. State, South Carolina, Maryland, Arkansas, and Wake Forest.
Rivals.com bills the Asheville star as the No. 4 prospect overall regardless of position in the Tar Heel State.
Butler becomes the first top five selection from North Carolina to say yes to Clemson since Raeford standout C.J. Gaddis committed back in 2003.
The speedy athlete carries a 2.97 GPA with a 900 on his last SAT attempt.
Clemson defensive line coach Marion Hobby was the primary recruiter of record here, though former graduate assistant Billy Napier began actively recruiting Butler in the spring.
Tigerillustrated.com will have a photo gallery and audio from the Butler press conference later today in the 5-6pm hour.
