1. Seems like when it rains, the recruiting stars pour in to Clemson.

Saturday’s 24-10 victory against Georgia Tech no doubt conjured plenty of memories and comparisons to Clemson’s triumph against Notre Dame in a veritable monsoon two years ago.

It’s reasonable to wonder about the impact weather can have on a prospect and his family in leaving an impression about the school, campus and visit. In other words, sunny and warm certainly create fuzzier feelings than freezing or soggy, and the decision-makers are going to reflect on their associations with the school in rendering a decision.

Yet let’s look back at that Notre Dame contest for perspective.

Among the no-shows were John Simpson, Shaq Smith and Justin Foster – all of whom eventually signed with Clemson. Diondre Overton, Chase Brice and Cade Stewart were there along with 2019 target Zacch Pickens.

That was an A-list showdown that still attracted a bunch of big names who matriculated elsewhere.

It was also the anticipated first game visit for a certain blue-chip quarterback many perceived to be leaning toward Tennessee at the time: Trevor Lawrence.

Things turned out alright there.

So when it pours, the Tigers can still reign.

2. Know who else coincidentally made that Notre Dame deluge his first Clemson game?

A young prospect the Tigers were courting as a tight end: Clemmons (N.C.) West Forsyth five-star defensive end K.J. Henry.

Henry (6-5, 235), ranked No. 23 nationally by Rivals.com, is at the opposite end of the process now.

Clemson accounted for the third of his five official visits over the weekend. Georgia and Virginia Tech are already in the books, with South Carolina up next in two weeks.

We had reason to think Alabama was coming next this week, so the fact the Tide visit has been postponed and/or withheld till later is an interesting tweak.
