THE WEST ZONE message board | SHOP NOW: DEALS on CLEMSON apparel
CLEMSON -- In 2009 and 2011, there were plenty of anxious moments in Clemson's division-clinching victories.
The Tigers were supposed to have their way with a bad Virginia team in Dabo Swinney's first full season, but the Cavaliers were within 24-21 at halftime before Clemson created some breathing room and then hung on for a 34-21 victory.
Two years later, almost no one thought Wake Forest capable of walking into Death Valley and denying Clemson a trip to Charlotte. But the Tigers used some good fortune and Chandler Catanzaro's leg to emerge with a 31-28 triumph over a team that finished 6-7.
Uproarious celebrations followed both of those victories, inside the stadium and inside the locker room and inside the postgame press conferences.
Not so much, not nearly as much, after last night's 31-14 victory over Florida State that sealed a showdown with Miami in three weeks.
