Scott commits to Clemson
board

Columbia defensive tackle Dorrel Scott (6-3, 295, 4.9) has made a verbal commitment to Clemson. Scott picked Clemson over offers from Nebraska, Alabama, Iowa, South Carolina and North Carolina. He becomes the 17th verbal commitment for the 2004 recruiting campaign, and fourth among defensive linemen. Rivals.com ranks Scott as the nation's 35th defensive tackle prospect.
This season while starring for Ridge View Scott had over 100 tackles and five sacks. Tigerillustrated.com rates him as the state's No. 1 defensive lineman, and the No. 8 prospect overall, regardless of position.
Recruited by assistant head coach Brad Scott, one of (Dorrel) Scott's (assistant) coaches is Jeff Scott, a former Clemson wide receiver and the son of Coach Scott.
Clemson was the first to offer, and has recruited Scott the hardest from the onset. For much of his recruitment he has been favoring Clemson, a lead for the Tigers that widened following their win over No. 3 Florida State on November 8th.
Ridge View head coach Kirk Burnett calls Scott a young man with outstanding character. "Well the first thing here is that you've got a young man with outstanding character. You won't have to worry about him doing anything wrong at Clemson in the way of embarrassing the program, I can tell you that. He's an outstanding young man, first," said Burnett. "I do expect him to qualify, and it looks firm. Dorrel's relieved right now. I think that's the best way to describe his feelings now. He's relieved. And as of right now, today, I do not expect him to take anymore visits."
"He's a three-year player at the next level, perhaps more. I can remember many times in games where he has made plays 12 yards downfield. He works until the end of the whistle on every play. He's a good one."
Burnett's stance all along has been for Scott to simply give the in-state schools a hard look. "We always want our kids to give the in-state schools a shot, always."
