Clemson has landed its eighth verbal commitment of the 2007 recruiting class in Duncan - James F. Byrnes linebacker Stanley Hunter.
The 5-foot-11, 205-pounder verbally told the Clemson coaching staff he would be on his way earlier this spring, and on Tuesday at his school made a formal announcement at a press conference.
Hunter, Tigerillustrated.com's No. 12 rated prospect in the state of South Carolina for 2006-07, is the state's No. 2 rated linebacker, and a candidate to likely debut with a 5.7 marker on the Rivals.com ratings scale later this month.
The explosive athlete is coming off a highly impressive junior campaign where he helped guide the Rebels to yet another state championship. Last season Hunter posted 160 tackles, 38 tackles for loss, and 16 sacks.
In a year where Clemson could potentially take three commitments from linebackers, Hunter's pledge becomes the first, and the third overall among defensive Clemson commits, joining pledges Jarvis Jenkins, a defensive tackle out of Central - Daniel, and Rennie Moore Jr., a defensive end from St. Marys, Ga. - Camden County.
"I feel at home at Clemson, and I know that I've made the best decision for me," Hunter told Tigerillustrated.com in a Monday interview. "Me and Willy (Korn) have been talking about this day for a long time, and to play with him, him being my best friend, and us going through so much together, this was a decision that I was at peace with for a while."
Hunter, who picked Clemson over offers from Virginia Tech, North Carolina and South Carolina, becomes the third verbal commitment for Clemson inside linebackers coach - recruiting coordinator David Blackwell.
Hunter is coached by Mr. Bobby Bentley.
Later this evening Tigerillustrated.com will have more from Hunter's Tuesday night presser, including photos, comments and more.
