Far be it from me to tell customers, i.e. fans and ticket-holders, how they should feel about the product they are consuming.

Yet I’m just not grasping The West Zone message board criticisms spawned from Clemson’s victory Saturday.

I get debating the merits of this running back committee, constant rolling of reserves, perceived conservative play-calling and various aspects relating to quarterback play. Nothing is above scrutiny when you want to improve.

But it sure sounds like more and more folks post-championship are prioritizing style over substance.

Sure, a 14-point triumph doesn’t shine as glamorous as Alabama repeatedly blowing the doors off an SEC peer. The offense isn’t throw after throw down the field. The defense doesn’t exactly do everything in its power to deter points in anticlimactic situations.

Clemson, though, is sacrificing splash for safety as well as long-term strength.
