Mount Pleasant (S.C.) Wando four-star receiver OrTre Smith kicked off a vital weekend in his recruitment with a trip to Clemson’s “All-In Cookout” Friday night.

“It wasn’t like something recruiting-wise,” Smith told TigerIllustrated.com. “It had a family feel. We just had fun. It was a great opportunity to meet people and mingle.”

Smith (6-4, 219), ranked No. 87 nationally by Rivals.com, released a top five last month featuring Clemson, South Carolina, North Carolina, Georgia and Florida.

Most observers expect it will remain an in-state battle for Smith, whose mother played volleyball at Clemson. The Tigers have attempted to make a late surge.

Smith said he spent most of the Cookout hanging out with Clemson’s receiver commitments: Oak Ridge (Tenn.) four-star Tee Higgins, Knoxville (Tenn.) Catholic four-star Amari Rodgers and Central (S.C.) Daniel walk-on Will Swinney.

Smith knew Rodgers in particular from previous recruiting camps.
