Boy, that's a fascinating topic.

First off, it's important to call it a "system" and not necessarily a "controversy." Because in today's frequently dumb, reactionary, click-bait culture a two-quarterback system automatically translates into a controversy.

While it's possible for a two-quarterback system to work, it's also a delicate endeavor that can be fraught with problems. While coaches frequently bemoan the attention on quarterbacks and ask why there's no great fascination over rotations at other positions, it's just a fact that quarterback is a totally different deal. It's always been the most important position on the field, by far. And nowadays it's even more vital because of so many offenses making their quarterback the facilitator and distributor in fast-paced schemes that spread the field horizontally and vertically -- almost like a point guard in basketball.
