[Clemson's verbal commitment list]
Clemson has landed its fifth verbal commitment of the 2005-06 recruiting class in Greer - Riverside quarterback Michael Wade. According to a source familiar with his recruiting, the 6-foot-2, 187-pound gunslinger committed to his recruiter, inside linebackers coach David Blackwell earlier today after receiving an offer.
Wade's pledge, as first reported by Tigerillustrated.com, is the third from an in-state prospect this spring.
Tigerillustrated.com rates Wade as the state's No. 1 quarterback prospect and No. 11 overall regardless of position.
Wade, whose father Mike was a member of Clemson's 1981 National Championship team, picked the Tigers over offers from Maryland and Duke.
Last season the Riverside product threw for 1,388 yards and nine touchdowns, while also rushing for 623 yards and six touchdowns.
Earlier this week Wade was in Clemson's camp where he impressed offensive coordinator Rob Spence. The Athens - Nike Camp standout ran a 4.65/40 in Clemson's indoor track facility, and also showed excellent athleticism and movement skills while on the practice fields.
The future three-star rated prospect also camped at South Carolina, Maryland, Wake Forest and Vanderbilt.
Wade's pledge to Clemson is the second for Blackwell who earlier this month secured a verbal commitment from Morris, IL star Jamie Cumbie, one of the nation's top rated strongside end prospects.
Tigerillustrated.com will have more on this breaking story later today, including quotes from Wade later this evening.
