CLEMSON -- After a walk-off two-run home run on Sunday, Logan Davidson picked right up where he left off with a two-run homer in the first inning Wednesday night.
Davidson led No. 12 Clemson with three hits, as the Tigers defeated No. 11 Coastal Carolina 8-5 at Doug Kingsmore Stadium.

“I’m just trying to keep it simple at the plate and hit a ground ball up the middle,” said Davidson. “That approach turned into a home run in the first inning. I was just trying to hit a grounder up the middle.”
Clemson’s bullpen held the Chanticleers to one run over seven innings after starting pitcher Jackson Lindley lasted just two frames.
“I thought our bullpen did an outstanding job,” said Clemson coach Monte Lee. “They made some big pitches with runners on base.”
Junior right-hander Owen Griffith allowed three hits and one unearned run over three innings, striking out six batters and earning the win.
“My changeup and slider were working well tonight,” said Griffith. “I usually have been a fastball and curveball guy, but I felt good throwing those pitches and I threw them for strikes.”
Coastal Carolina had scored three runs in the second inning to tighten Clemson’s lead to 6-4 before Griffith entered the game.
“The biggest difference in the ballgame was when we went to Owen Griffith,” said Lee. “He really settled everything down when he came in and threw as well as he possibly could have.”
Adam Hackenberg connected on a three-run homer in the first inning. The freshman catcher has three hits on the season, all resulting in home runs.
Said Lee: “I thought he called a good game and he hit the big home run early in the game.”
Coastal Carolina loaded the bases with one out in the sixth inning, but Sam Weatherly and Holt Jones struck out the next two Chanticleer batters to escape the jam.
Carson Spiers picked up his fifth save of the season, pitching the final 1 2/3 innings.
Said Lee: “We knew that we were facing an excellent ballclub tonight, and we knew that we needed to play a really good game ourselves to be able to compete with them”.
Clemson has won four-straight games against ranked opponents since losing two of three games in its rivalry series against South Carolina.
“It was a great win for us against a really good ballclub, and we hope to keep that momentum going,” said Davidson.
The Tigers will host Notre Dame this weekend for a three-game series beginning on Friday night at 6 p.m .
